Research Vision
The Beck Group is focused on solving technologically-relevant problems by answering fundamental questions about the behavior of materials across length scales using a range of computational techniques. Of particular interest are problems centered on atomic-scale dynamics, especially those requiring accurate treatment of electronic structure (e.g., with DFT), or problems relating to discontinuities, disorder, or randomness in materials. Examples of such problems include the design and development of nanostructured catalytic, thermionic, and/or photo-responsive materials, or understanding and controlling the properties of amorphous or “random network” materials.
