Faculty advisor who choose to may have their own ELN sites on the network. Prof. Beck maintains his ELN here. Faculty with their own ELN sites will use them just as other group members do: to record all research-relevant activity.
In addition, faculty advisors will use group members ELNs as digital, searchable, online, real-time and on-demand logs of group members work. Group member ELNs are a key tool for faculty advisors to use to monitor research progress, so it is important to keep up with posting to your ELN!
Faculty–group member interaction via the ELNs is bi-directional. Therefore, advisors may also:
- Add comments to group members ELN posts. The owner of the site will receive an email notifying the group member that a comment has been added to a post.
- Post to group member’s ELNs. Advisors can create posts on group member’s ELNs. These posts will generally be requests or assignments to group members, and will not appear on the group members ELN until the group member “confirms” the post. Group members will be notified by email that a faculty advisor has created a post via email. Group members are expected to read such posts as soon as possible, and signal that they have done so by confirming the submitted post.
Faculty with questions about detailed or additional ELN functionality should email Prof. Beck.
