With on campus research resuming full-throttle this summer, the group is thrilled to welcome three 2021 Undergraduate Summer Researchers:
- Ms. Katherine Moody – Ms. Moody is a senior in MSE and has worked as a KRaSTk developer and user for the past few years. This summer Ms. Moody will compute mechanical property distributions for models of fibrous ablative materials. This project is supported by NASA KY EPSCOR.
- Mr. Naji Mashrafi – Mr. Mashrafi is a rising junior in MSE and joins the group to use KRaSTk to explore how the specific geometric factors beyond reduced density affect distributions of mechanical properties in ligament porous materials. This project is supported by the UK College of Engineering.
- Mr. Ryan Griffith – Mr. Griffith is a rising junior in MSE and joins the group to use FEA tools to explore the effect of surface roughness on local field strength in nominally parallel plate capacitors. This project is supported by DARPA and the UK College of Engineering.
We’re always looking for students interested in applying computational methods to solve engineering problems. If you’re interested in an independent research project, please contact Prof. Beck.
